18th Annual
Walk, Rock and Run is going Virtual

Sunday, June 21, 2020

Dear Friends,

Since 1927, The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio has been working to eliminate bias, bigotry and racism. Now the world is listening! As you witness the peaceful protests and the country’s attention to the Black Lives Matter movement, you may be wondering what you can do to show your support.

As Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently noted, “Racism in America is like dust in the air. It seems invisible — even if you’re choking on it — until you let the sun in. Then you see it’s everywhere. As long as we keep shining that light, we have a chance of cleaning it wherever it lands. But we have to stay vigilant, because it’s always still in the air”.

The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio’s 18th Annual Walk, Rock and Run will be held, virtually on Sunday, June 21, 2020. Proceeds support our diversity programs in schools throughout Northeast Ohio, reaching over 14,000 students and youth serving professionals in 11 counties.

Walk or run virtually with us in your neighborhood. Join us on Facebook LIVE, Sunday morning, June 21st at 8:30 a.m.! Click here to link to our Facebook page. Or, join us on Facebook LIVE from Peggy Zone Fisher’s Facebook account

More than 20 Greater Cleveland organizations, including The Diversity Center, have signed a declaration of racial equity and inclusion and pledged to address racism as a public health crisis. The statement reads in part:

“This past weekend, across our country and here in Cleveland, we witnessed the ignition of long-smoldering injustice and inequity in our black and brown communities, the evidence of which is undeniable yet frequently overlooked: The rate of COVID-19 infections and infant mortality, disproportionate unemployment and another murder of an unarmed black citizen – George Floyd – at the hands of a police officer. Systemic racism is everyone’s problem.”

Let’s rally for a great cause and be a part of the solution.
