Current Diversity Center Program Initiatives
LeadDIVERSITY: Each year, a group of 25-30 young professionals are selected to participate in a year-long curriculum that examines how organizations attend to diversity as a critical success factor, and teaches participants how to guide their organizations in more tolerant and inclusive directions.
ACT: This is the Diversity Center's second year to offer ACT, Action and Awareness for Change Teams. The Diversity Center is excited to offer this new program that will not only empower students with the skills and resources to serve as positive change agents for inclusion but strengthen their proficiencies around school's core curriculum guidelines.
Healthcare Disparities: In partnership with Aetna, The Diversity Center has developed an effective and customizable cultural competency training program for healthcare professionals, to assist them in interacting effectively with our area's diverse populations. With the major funding from the Community West Foundation, the Diversity Center held a day-long seminar on May 30, 2007 to train 150 mental health employees in cultural competency. Customizable curriculum is available for on-site cultural competency training for all kinds of health practitioners.
Interfaith Initiatives: The Interfaith Task Force played a foundational role in launching a local chapter of We Believe Ohio, an interfaith movement which unites diverse religious voices to advocate for inclusion, compassion, social justice and religious freedom in Ohio. Recently The Diversity Center assisted Interact Cleveland in planning an interreligious Thanksgiving celebration for November 19th, 2007.
Walk as One - Rock as One: Each year, The Diversity Center works in collaboration with The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to create a community walk-a-thon for more than 5,000 people who celebrate diversity. Artists, entertainers and community sponsors provide great music, great food, and other family entertainment for the walkers.
