In-school programming
The Diversity Center offers a variety of in-school programming options, and can customize them to fit the needs of your school. The following are some of our most popularly requested programs:
ACT: Action and Awareness for Change Teams
This eight-part program is designed as a Diversity 101 curriculum, focusing on the following themes: race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability and socioeconomics. Students also receive priority registration for the fall retreat and spring conference
Anti-Bullying
This program includes an overview of diversity, types of bullying (definitions and examples) and ends with an interesting twist on bullying solutions and student empowerment.
Conflict Management
This program not only addresses how to handle a conflict, but delves deeper into what leads to and influences our behavior in a conflict situation. Interactive methods are used to help participants identify with the subject matter and engage in the learning.
Diversity 101 Workshop
This program is used and an introduction to conversations around diversity beginning with types and definitions, the cycle of injustice and power and privilege.
Facilitator Training
In this program, students discover the difference between a teacher and a facilitator. Students learn and practice skills of a successful facilitator. This program is ideal for mentor, leadership or student council groups.
Socioeconomic Simulation
A three hour interactive program that gives students firsthand experience at prioritizing and making financial decisions for different "family" budgets, drawn from scenarios based on the diversity of families that exists in America.
Team ESPN: Educating Sports teams through Positive Negotiation
In this program, students learn about teamwork through leadership, trust building and conflict management exercises. Students learn about more about themselves and how to use these skills on and off the court.
The N-Word Workshop
In this program, we show a documentary on the history and evolution of the N-word followed by a facilitated discussion on its current use and impact in today's society. After the discussion, students also can take a personal pledge to decrease their use of this word.
