Q: What is the Diversity Center Walk & Rock?
A: It is a diversity walk-a-thon and 5K run that raises funds to introduce and expand The Diversity Center's youth and community leadership programs. The 2006 Walk raised over $150,000 with over 2,100 participants.
Q: Who will participate in the Walk & Rock?
A: Corporate teams, families, clubs, youth and religious groups, schools and civic organizations will participate.
Q: How can my company or organization participate?
A: Companies and organization can participate in the Walk & Rock as a sponsor by making a donation and/or by organizing a team of employees along with their friends and family members, to walk in the event.
Q: Are teams hard to organize?
A: No! Team participation in the Walk & Rock is easy! To start, select a Team Captain that can work with the Diversity Center's office. The Diversity Center will supply all the materials and instructions your Team Captain needs to build a large team.
Q: Does participation in Walk as One - Rock as One require a company donation?
A: No! Generally, a company can generate much larger donation by organizing a company team to participate than it would be able to make through a direct corporation donation.
Q: How do Walk teams raise money?
A: Each individual walker or runner on a team is responsible for gathering their own financial supporters who make donations to the designated walkers.
Q: How is the money collected?
A: Walkers are responsible for collecting and turning in their donations: the company is not responsible for collecting or handling and of the money raised by employees.
Q: Who else can walk as part of a team?
A: The Diversity Center encourages team members to invite their family and friends to join in the fun and walk or run as part of their team.
Q: How can top management help build a Walk & Rock team?
A: Top management can help by endorsing the Walk & Rock in a memo to all employees, by being among the first to sign up for the company team, and by authorizing the purchase of T-shirts that team members can wear with pride the day of the Walk and Run.
Q: How far is the Walk & Rock?
A: A three-mile walk starting and ending at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. The Run is 5K (3.1 miles).
